First post of 2014

Hello everyone , happy new year , and we hope you all had a good Christmas. Since our last blog , Aaron and our farming friend, Tone,  from Wotton-Under-edge culled the Turkeys that we have been raising all year, we had 3 stags and 2 hens. It was quite a sad time to see them go as this was our first year of rearing Turkeys. we weren’t sure what weight they would make , but in the end it was fine, the smallest was 16lbs, and two of the stags weighed in at 30lbs. The 30lb turkey was bought by a local pest controller and he loved it , very moist and he had got four meals from it and still eating it as of Jan 11th !! We had very good feedback from all our customers , so we will be rearing more turkeys for 2014.  Three of our latest litter of kittens have been sold and we are keeping two as mousers…

New editions to our smallholding are two , registered 100% boer goats (One male , one female), we hope to buy another female in the spring and will be breeding from them later this year. Aaron has now bought the last item needed to become a shepherd, he has put a deposit down on a beautiful border collie which will be named Skye and will be picked up when she is 8 weeks old.

Our reindeer are doing well and had a couple of visits from local children in the run up to Christmas. they are getting more confident with other people and like being stroked , and hand fed. They are hoping for some snow this winter !! All the poultry have started laying again after a couple of months break. The small animal boarding is going very well and was busy over the Christmas holiday. We are hoping to expand this venture in the spring
